How to Distinguish PE piquefabric from Poly piquefabric

If you’ve ever been responsible for ordering uniform T-shirts for your company or organization, you’ve likely encountered PE crochet fabric and Polyester crochet fabric, also known as Poly, often referred to fancifully as “Poly Thai.” Which one to choose, and why? Similarities

• Both are made from synthetic fibers, so both PE and Polyester crochet fabrics, or Poly, have a bright, shiny color. Additionally, as they are woven to create a crochet pattern, their appearance is quite similar.
• Due to their synthetic nature, both PE and Poly fabrics are durable and affordable. Naturally, their production cost is higher than that of crochet mè (rice grain weave), mè fabric, or cold spandex, as they are heavier due to denser weaving and the creation of the crochet texture.
• Non-absorbent: Simply put, synthetic fibers like plastic don't absorb sweat. Consequently, wearers may feel hot. However, with modern moisture-wicking technologies and other advanced techniques, Poly crochet fabric has been treated to absorb moisture well, significantly improving its quality. To date, PE crochet fabric has not been treated for moisture absorption, so Poly crochet fabric currently has the advantage in this aspect, though this is a subjective opinion. Note: As a textile professional, I can confirm that currently, only Poly crochet fabric comes in treated and untreated versions for moisture absorption. The terms “Poly Thai Fabric,” “Poly American Fabric,” “Poly Indonesian Fabric,” etc., are merely marketing tactics, and there is no verified import from these countries. After over 13 years in the industry, I know many Vietnamese companies produce this fiber and fabric at acceptable prices, widely preferred by industry professionals. I see no reason for (or against) importing Poly crochet fabric!

Differences

There may be various aspects such as processing, cost, color diversity, and durability. However, this article will focus on two direct consumer-related aspects:

• Appearance: Poly crochet fabric offers better visual appeal with brighter colors, attracting younger customers and fitting better for festive and engaging activities. In contrast, PE crochet fabric appears duller and less vibrant than Poly.
• Short and Long Fibers: Simply put, PE crochet fabric is woven from short fibers, whereas Poly crochet fabric is made from longer fibers. If a garment gets scratched and you pull the loose thread, Poly’s long fibers can exacerbate the damage, while PE’s short fibers limit the damage to a few centimeters. This technical detail aids in better garment maintenance. Understanding this, if you own a Poly crochet fabric T-shirt, cut off loose threads rather than pulling them. This practice is advisable for any fabric if you’re unsure of its type. Simple and effective.
